Strong 43.5% Growth
July 23, 2008
According to CCID Consulting, China's flash memory 1Q 2008 shipments reached
3.9 million, up 43.5% YOY. Larger capacities and market breakthroughs by
Aigo and Kingston characterize the first quarter in 2008.
Larger capacity: 2G become
popular.
Not surprisingly, flash
memory capacities are getting larger and more available in China. 2G
products have become the mainstream. Previously unattainable 4G and 8G
capacities are almost within reach for the Chinese user.

Aigo focused on
commercial sector, while also targeting more stylish consumer markets.
As the market leader in
1Q08, Aigo focused on the high-end and commercial customers, helping to
burnish its industry image. Moreover, approximately 20% of its shipments
were to Chinese women, as Aigo marketed more style-oriented products.
Kingston achieved the
most rapid growth.
In 1Q08,
Kingson's shipments grew an amazing 360% YOY by leveraging its channel
advantages, upstream chip resources, and strong product price-performance
ratios. Similarly, Lenovo was up 270% YOY, and came in a close second to
Aigo. Lenovo's advantages were brand, independent channel network, and
Beijing 2008 Olympics sponsorship and visibility.
